Making Connections, Delivering Results for Lehigh County
My campaign for Lehigh County Commissioner began unexpectedly, not in a political meeting, but in the checkout line at Staples on Lehigh Street in Allentown. I was picking up materials for my first event when I struck up a conversation with a young man. He wasn’t sure local elections mattered. I shared my profound belief: local government is where real change happens, where we shape the community we want. After our chat, he said he’d vote – for me. That trust humbled me and crystallized my mission.
I’m Sarah Fevig. I’m a Southern Lehigh parent raising three kids with my husband Jeff, a dedicated band and orchestra teacher at Southern Lehigh Middle School. I’m a Financial Aid Advocate who has spent a career cutting through red tape to help students achieve their dreams. And I’m a former Small Business Owner who navigated the 2008 economic crisis, understanding firsthand what it means to meet a payroll and support our local economy.
I’m not a career politician. I’m running because I believe local government should work for everyone, not just the well-connected. We moved our family back to the Lehigh Valley in 2016 because we believe this is where our children, and our entire community, can thrive. I want to bring my diverse experiences – and a commitment to listen to yours – to the Lehigh County Commissioner’s office.
My Approach: The Mobius Strip – Seeing All Sides for Better Solutions
My philosophy is about finding and making connections. Think of a Mobius Strip: a simple twist reveals a new side, a new perspective. It shows how seemingly separate issues are deeply interconnected. As your Commissioner, I’ll use this approach to look at every challenge from all angles, ensuring we find comprehensive solutions that benefit all of Lehigh County. It means understanding that a strong budget supports affordable housing, that engaging our youth fuels thoughtful development, and that every decision impacts our future.
A Commissioner Who Understands from the Ground Up
I believe in leadership that brings people and ideas together. When I ran my small business, I would bid out the cleaning jobs for new construction sites. An employee rightly asked how I could price work I didn’t know how to do. So, I reprioritized my other responsibilities and joined the crews. I got my hands dirty – literally. It gave me vital new perspectives and, yes, improved my estimates!
That’s the approach I’ll bring as your Lehigh County Commissioner: seeing the whole picture, from the ground up, and building the connections needed for real change. My career has been about connecting people to opportunity, whether helping students navigate financial aid or employing local residents in my small business. I’m currently the Assistant Vice Provost for Financial Aid and Scholarships at The New School and am pursuing my doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership, focusing on how students learn through working – all to create better pathways to opportunity.
Let’s Build a Better Lehigh County, Together.
I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work for you. I believe in a future where our local government works for everyone—with transparency, vision, and a clear plan for sustainable growth.
